Albert Capwell Wyckoff (1903-1953)

A scene from "In the Camp of the Black Rider"

Albert Capwell Wyckoff was born in 1903 in New Jersey. He published twenty-nine books. His most popular work is the Mercer Boys series. This series was a collection of mystery stories for boys. He wrote other mystery stories and some Christian novels. He also wrote for magazines, including "Boys Life" and "Open Road for Boys". Despite his wonderful accomplishments, he never graduated from high school. His father died when he was young and he needed to work to support his family. He served as a lay minister in Arkansas. He eventually decided to become an ordained minister.
Rev. Wyckoff sold his Mercer Boys manuscripts for a flat rate of two hundred dollars without royalties. He used the money to help finance missionary work. He was an ordained minister in the Columbia Presbyterian Church. He died of a heart attack on January 10th, 1953. He was survived by his wife and two daughters. The author was buried in the Columbia City Cemetery in Columbia, Kentucky.
